Respiratory Virus essays

Respiratory Virus essays Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a very common virus that causes mild cold-like symptoms in adults and older healthy children. It can cause serious respiratory problems in young babies, especially those born prematurely, who have heart or lung disease, or who are immunocompromised. # RSV was first founded in an outbreak of copious rhinorrhea in a colony of chimpanzees; the chimpanzee coryza agent was soon isolated from human infants with similar illnesses.# Respiratory Synctial Virus (RSV) is an infection that is contagious that resembles the common cold a lot of times. RSV is the most common viral pathogen that causes lower respiratory tract infections in infants.# RSV infection in infancy cause severe bronchiolitis and pneumonia and may incline children to the following development of asthma, the most common chronic illness of childhood. RSV is the most single related cause of pneumonia and bronchiolitis. Epidemics of the virus are seen each winter, 80% of infections typically occur during a three-month period.# The virus is not typically severe during infancy but it is rare if it happens. (As, in my case I was born with the RSV virus and was hospitalized for eighteen days and was put on assisted ventilation.) In infants RSV infection can spread to the bronchial tubes and lungs. The virus can also infect adults, in where the infection can cause viral pneumonia, which is sometimes followed by a bacterial infection of the lower respira tory system.# RSV is the largest single cause of childhood hospitalization and is therefore a major drain on public health resources. Each year more than 90,000 infants are hospitalized with the RSV infection, and nearly 75% of bronchiolitis cases and more than 50% of pneumonia cases are hospitalized also because of the infection.#The infection usually lasts from four to twenty-one days. If the infection is severe it could last a ...

Interests Rates Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Interests Rates - Coursework Example Akerlof’s experience during his writings on Lemons problem and its effect on the proficient functioning of a market is best summarized by stating that markets are characterized by asymmetric information, and thus there is a need for adjusting the markets interests rates for individual market participants, which necessitates the better-informed participants to take costly actions in an effort to develop market outcome by transmitting credible information to the poorly informed. According to Akerlof, most sellers are likely to lower the quality of a product in situations where the buyer cannot exactly determine or observe the product quality. He adds prices are likely to decline because of the unwillingness of the buyers to pay because of skimped quality. This leads a much lower quality because sellers maximize every opportunity to make more prices at the lower prices offered by buyers. This leads to market failure because sellers would sell a high-quality product at high prices despite the fact that buyers are willing to pay for the high prices.Akerlof uses examples of second-hand cars to enhance his theory of market equilibrium. The categories the cars into two; Lemons and Plums. The lemon represents a bad car, a car that is of poor quality and buyers should avoid buying lemons in the market according to Akerlof. He uses plum to mean a good quality car and most buyers would prefer to buy a plum. This situation occurs because people will not easily verify the quality of a product.

The business of EBay had suffered during the first two quarters of 2012 but showed a revival in the third quarter financial results. The growth in the revenues of EBay was fuelled by the payments through PayPal. The revenue of EBay rose to USD 3.4 billion with an increase of 15% above the previous revenue generated by the business. The profits and growth of the company were further attributed to the launch of a new website and more developed features in worldwide listing and shipping services. EBay has successfully captured the global e-commerce market with its power shipping and same day shipping programs. T he shipping programs of EBay provide a significant competitive edge for the business over its competitors like Amazon.com and Wal-Mart stores. Financial Markets & Risks Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Financial Markets & Risks - Essay Example They can be in the form of a guaranteed annuity or a cash balance that an employee can draw upon at retirement. A pension that is created by an employer for an employee is known as an occupational pension. The government or other organisations may also sponsor pensions. Pension plans are a form of deferred compensation. The United Kingdom pension system is characterised by three tiers. The first tier is that of Basic State Pension (BSP) which is provided by the state. There are several pension schemes in the second tier. The state, employers, or private sector financial institutions provide these schemes. These pension schemes may be divided into two broad types: Defined Benefit (DB) pension schemes, and Defined Contributions pension scheme (DC). The DB schemes include the State-Earning-Related-Pension Scheme (SERPS), and occupational pension schemes provided by employers. The DC schemes include the contribution pension schemes offered by employers, and the personal pension, or a stakeholder pension fund held with a financial institution. The third tier of UK's pension system is voluntary and it takes the form of additional voluntary contributions (AVCs and FSAVCs) into occupational or personal pension schemes. The pension schemes we need to focus on behalf of the company are occupational pension schemes. ... In the DB pension scheme, the retirement pension benefits are related to the member's final salary upon retirement, and length of service. This is a "funded" plan in which both employer and employee contribute towards the pension fund. A DC pension scheme is a scheme that provides an individual account for each employee participant. The benefits are solely on the amount contributed to the account, gains, expenses and losses allocated to the account. The plan contributions, which are fixed for both the employer and employee, are paid into the account for each member. These contributions are invested and the returns are also credited to the individual's account. On retirement, the member's account is used to provide retirement benefits. This is usually through the purchase of an annuity that provides regular income post retirement. The members also have the option to draw a certain lumpsum amount before purchasing annuities. These plans also may offer the facility to members to select the types of investments towards which the pension funds would be allocated. Relative Merits of DB and DC Schemes The contributions in case of DB schemes are higher to keep up with the cost of providing the defined retirement benefits. It is even higher for employers relative to employees. DB plans offer less mobility than the DC plans because the transfer costs and difficulty in transfer of funds is very high for the DB Plans. DC plans offer higher portability. Both the DB and DC plans offer tax relief on contributions to employers. Tax relief is usually higher in case of DB plans due to higher contributions. Unlike the DB schemes, in a DC scheme a member cannot predict his pension at the time of retirement, as it is difficult to predict what capital he will accumulate

Physical activity for children

Physical activity for children Phisical activity for children Outcome 1 Introduction This report provides information about the key benefits of physical activity for children in two categories of age 2-6 and 6-11 years old. This report will present of areas of development of the above age stages, which contained: physical, intellectual, skill, and psychological/social/emotional. Physical development is a process that begins in the human childhood and lasts until late adolescents focuses on the ability of gross and fine motor, and maturation. Physical development involves developing control over the body, especially the muscles and motor coordination. Intellectual development is best defined as the childs ability to think and understand the world. The way in which the child takes and processes information related to carers and experiencing the effects of the world in all areas of development. Skill development Stages of Development Children Aged 2-6 Physical changes Physical development of children of preschool age is slower and more stable than in infancy, however remains dramatic. Some important factors affecting the physical development during the preschool include changes in the childs brain, gross and fine motor skills and health. Toddlers soon acquire the leaner, more athletic look associated with childhood, as the children around age 3 begin to lose their baby fat. The childs body and legs grow longer and make your abdominal muscles, tightening the abdominal appearance. However, even at this early stage of children life, boys have more muscle mass than girls. From age 2 to 6 physical proportions continue to change, as their heads are getting smaller, but they are still larger than the school childrens. Also, head proportion from large is changing to the body even out, what have an impact on the balance but that improve coordination. The using of energy system is less efficient than adults, what can be notices during exercise that the children breath heavier, sweats more and also heart rate is faster than the adults. The hot or cold environment has a much bigger impact than on adults too. As they are suffer more from overheating, becoming too cold, but also dehydrating. The energy system is affected by not fully developed aerobic system, as the oxygen can be supply a fraction of required by the working muscles. Young children are not able to exercise in high intensity, because their anaerobic system is still not fully developed. Intellectual development At this stage, babies eventually enable to cope with separation from parents. Language develops as children grow into toddlers and their world expands. Symbolic understanding and appear pretend play skills there. Children begin to work on their experience, such as feeding a doll or a car. In the preschool years, children expand their understanding of pre-academic skills. They learn to identify colours, shapes, numbers, and letters. They also begin to demonstrate phonemic awareness. Some children may even begin to read familiar sight words as they reach age five. Pre-schoolers also develop more elaborate symbolic and cooperative play. For example, peers work together to act out a theme such as playing house, with each player having a defined role. Skill development Motor skills are physical abilities or capacities. Gross motor skills involves the use of large body movements, and this includes running, jumping, jumping, turning, jumping, throwing, balancing and dance. Fine motor skills, which include drawing, writing, and tying shoelaces, involve the use of small bodily movement Motor fine skills involves the use of a small body movements, such as drawing, writing, and tying shoelaces, involve the use of a small body movements. Both above skills are develop and are refined in early childhood, but the motor skills develop more slowly in preschool. The comparison of the running abilities of a 2à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ old and a 6à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ old, will show the limited running skills of the 2à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ old. But when compare the trying shoelaces of 2 and 6 year old the difference will be even more striking. The 2à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ old has difficulty grasping the concept before ever attempting or completing the task. Physical activity For this age group, any physical activity is indicated, i.e. including both forms of light physical exercises, as well as, more vibrant and energetic suggestions. Providing children with adequate physical activity and game play is an important step to developing their physical fitness, which not only promotes the health of young children but significantly enhances their psychological development and social skills in the long run. It is evident that physical activity is essential to the whole-person development of young children. For young children, the amount of physical activity is more important than the intensity. Physical activity can enhance the development of young children’s gross motor and fine motor skills, and to foster their good health habits and self-care ability. Therefore, physical activity of any intensity level should be covered, e.g. daily activities of light intensity such as slow walking and packing school bags, activities of moderate intensity such as cycl ing, stair climbing or engaging in teacher-led large-muscle activity sessions, and even activities of vigorous intensity such as chasing and running around, dancing, swimming etc. engaged after school. Of course, activity of a higher intensity can enhance cardio-respiratory fitness and stimulate bone growth; it can also enhance their development of physical fitness and motor skills. For the maximum health benefit of young children, teachers can consider administering a suitable amount of higher intensity activity. As younger children’s leaders, teachers should give them ample opportunities to experience different kinds of physical activities within a safe environment. This is to train the young children’s fundamental motor skills, which are essential for them to cope with daily needs. Children may acquire better physical fitness and movement skills for participation in various sports activities in the future. Stages of Development Children Aged 6-11 Physical changes Children aged 6-11 experience many of physical changes occurring in their bodies. The coordination of arms and legs increases, also ability for use their fingers and hand in such things as crafts and writing improves. Furthermore, can be noticed the growth in interest in games with rules and organised sports. Intellectual development Skill development Physical activity References LAM, P Y, 2011. Phisical Actvity. Upon the introduction of Act 1 Scene 5, Lady Macbeth is brought into the plot of the play. In this soliloquy, Lady Macbeth comments on her thoughts after having read a letter from her husband, Macbeth, informing her about the witches’ prophecies on the possibility of Kingship. A variety of outstanding topics are explored, including the revelation of the true traits of characters such as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Her first thoughts are based on the reaction of the realism of Macbeth being Thane of Glamis, and possibly Cawdor as the witches predicted. This is expressed through the words “What thou art promised';. The idea of having soliloquy interacting with the witches’ predictions creates a sense of spirituality. This being Lady Macbeth’s first appearance in the play is effective as it allows the reader to associate this sense of spirituality and evil with her character, that has yet to have any substance to allow the reader to interpret her role by. She continues by expressing her fear over not being able to “catch the nearest way'; due to Macbeth’s overly kind character. This is demonstrated through a variety of techniques. An abrupt full lighting of the stage, alongside the impulsive entrance of the attendant, would conclude the soliloquy in the most chic fashion. As the reader discovers in the latter stages of the play, Macbeth is a character who loses his conscious and changes into a character of utmost evilness. This, when placed side by side with the praise from Lady Macbeth leading to assumptions of Macbeth’s character of complete ‘human kindness’, generates an extreme level of dramatic irony that is significant towards the general feeling of the audience. Aggregate Planning

Aggregate Planning Aggregate planning is a very critical tool for both manufacturing and services companies. It is concerned with determining the quantity and timing of production in order to meet forecasted demand at the lowest cost possible and by maintaining the quality of the product at the same time. Aggregate planning is the functional role of operational managers. It involves making scheduling decisions that address issues of matching production to meet changes in demand (Heizer and Render, p. 512).Advertising We will write a custom case study sample on Aggregate Planning specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Aggregate planning entails controlling of inventories, production rates, number of workers, production capacity, and other production variables. The elements are achieved through various strategy options that classified as either capacity options or demand options (Heizer and Render, p. 514). There are various capacity option strategies that ope ration managers in manufacturing and some services firms can utilize in aggregate planning to meet demand forecasts in future. Changing inventory level strategy is a capacity option where the manager makes adjustments in the level of inventory in order to meet future demand. Some operations managers can match firm production rate requirements. The other strategy is varying of production rates through overtime or idle time. Firms operations department may also use subcontracting strategy option so as to acquire short term capacity requirements during peak demand periods (Heizer and Render, p. 515). The last capacity strategy that can be utilized by operations managers is the use of part-time workers. Influencing demand is a demand strategy that firms try to increase demand for their product through advertising, personal selling, discounts, and promotions. Companies can also use â€Å"back ordering† during high demand periods (Heizer and Render, p. 516) as aggregate planning s trategy. Finally, firms can also use counter-seasonal product and service mixing as one of the demand option (Heizer and Render, p. 517). Operations managers utilize a number of aggregate planning techniques. The most popular technique is the graphical approach that is easy to understand it contains few variables. The other methods are mathematical approaches that tend to give optimal plans in minimizing cost and revenues (Heizer and Render, p. 524). This configuration as meets the exact weekly demand of 56,000 units. Plant 1 should be closed down since it the production costs and distribution costs are the highest. This implies that the company is going to save a to tal sum of $ (197,540 – 6,000) = $191,000 at the same time meeting the forecasted weekly demand of 56,000 units. Work Cited Heizer, Jay H, and B. Free Essays on Huck Finn Essay

Huckleberry Finn Essay The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name of Mark Twain, tells the story of Huck’s travels down the Mississippi River with a runaway slave. Huck lived in a small town with his biological father, Pap; a drunk who had caused him many problems. However, in the novel, the character of Jim is portrayed as the â€Å"true father† of Huck. Because Jim acts as a role model and a mentor to Huck along their journey down the river, he proves to be more of a father figure to Huck than his biological father Pap. A father teaches his son lessons. Jim taught Huck many lessons both intentionally and indirectly. Jim shows Huck that slaves are real people, just like himself, despite the different color of skin. Huck gained a greater amount of respect for Jim when he talked of missing his family. Jim also shared with Huck that he remembers beating his little four-year-old girl once. Jim told Huck he regretted his actions and was overcome with sadness, and of how he misses his family towards the end of the novel. Jim teaches Huck that slaves are not different because of color; they have feelings, emotions, and love their families just as much as whites. Sharing this compassionate side of Jim teaches Huck that slaves are not completely different simply because of color. Jim allows Huck to see that slaves have feelings, emotions, and love their families just as white folk would love theirs. Jim cares for and protects Huck, just as a father should. When Jim and Huck went exploring in the two-story house, Jim would not let Huck see the dead man in the house. â€Å"’Come in, Huck, but doan’ look at his face- it’s too gashly’. Free Essays on Huck Finn Essay Free Essays on Huck Finn Essay Huck Finn Essay People say that God gives us friends and family to make up a part of us that we lack. In so many Jim and Huck’s pap balance each other out to create a messy father figure for Huck. Throughout the whole book Huck is not alone and has someone for him to look to. Even though he’s not always in the safest situations with them, he always has someone to turn. In a quote from Huck on page 27 he talks about the up’s and down’s he has with his pap,† I reckon I was scared now, too; but in a minute I see I was mistaken-that is, after the first jolt, as you may say, when my breath sort of hitched, he being so unexpected; but right after I see I warn’t scared of him worth bothering about.† Huck’s pap is hardly ever around. When he is around Huck he is usually in a drunken state or on his way. Page 37 describes pap in a semi-dangerous drunken state,† He chased me round and round the place with a clasp knife, calling me the Angel of Death, and saying he would kill me, and then I couldn’t come for him no more.† Throughout the beginning of the book Huck’s pap pops in and out of his life, constantly making trouble and endangering Huck. Through events such as Huck’s pap kidnapping him, Huck must come to terms with the relationship he has with his father. Through the years pap has become and angry and selfish man, willing to use his own son’s money to spend how he pleased. Huck finally realizes that the situation he is in with his father isn’t the best after spending a large amount of time locked in pap’s cabin. When he finally understands that pap may be his father, but can’t give him what he needs, Huck decides to leave and create a life for himself that his father can’t give him. After leaving pap, Huck’s journey with Jim begins. Unexpectedly, Huck creates a friendship with Jim that runs deeper that any other friendship he has with an adult. Huck grows to understand Jim and to respect him. His... Free Essays on Huck Finn Essay Huckleberry Finn Essay The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name of Mark Twain, tells the story of Huck’s travels down the Mississippi River with a runaway slave. IT - Attacking Cryptography Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

IT - Attacking Cryptography - Essay Example Security requires constant and periodic changes to pace up and counter the threats that are ever increasing. Similarly, cryptography also goes with the same approach of upgrading new state of the art encryption algorithms one after another and from safe to the safest, so that it cannot be cracked. Lastly, the future concerns for blow fish encryption algorithm are associated with minimizing the use of S boxes along with less iterative processes along with sub key calculation on the fly. Two fish that is considered to be the next state of the art encryption algorithm after blow fish will be considered as AES final with 128 bit block size and can handle more operations. Two fish incorporates a 16 round structure with additional options for inputs and outputs, as the plain text is converted in to 32 bit words. The inputs incorporates four key words followed by sixteen rounds and each round, two words on the left are utilized as inputs to the function donated by ‘g’ (Stinson and Tavares ). ... S-boxes are dependent on large keys that are more resilient to cryptanalysis (Anderson. n.d). Moreover, permutations are key dependent with a support of diverse operations associated with mathematics that is integrated with XOR and addition (Anderson). For attacking the encrypted files, Charlie can use many attack methods for retrieving the password files stored in the database maintained by ‘keepass’. The plaintext and cipher text methods of attacks incorporates a cryptanalyst that has an access to plaintext and the conforming cipher text and pursues to find association in between the two. Whereas, a cipher text is associated with an attack in which cryptanalyst is accessible to cipher text and do not have access to conforming plaintext. Charlie can use generic ciphers such as Caesar, frequency analysis for cracking the cipher on Alice’s workstation. Moreover, Charlie can also use a plaintext and chosen cipher text attack for retrieving the passwords. This type o f attack incorporates a cryptanalyst that is capable of encrypting a plaintext of choice and examines the results of cipher text. This type of attack is most generic for asymmetric cryptography, as Charlie can gain public key via cryptanalyst. Charlie can also choose cipher text attack that incorporates a cryptanalyst selecting a cipher text that seeks for a similar plaintext. Charlie can decrypt oracle that is a machine for decrypting data without exposure of key. Moreover, Charlie can also execute the attack on public key encryption, as it initiate with a cipher text and seeks for similar matched plaintext data available publically. Charlie can also utilize adaptive attacks (Krawczyk), as these attacks incorporate a cryptanalyst that selects plaintext or cipher text

Students at grade 5 level are not pro at their understanding of figurative language. They find it difficult to draw inferences and meanings given the context at this level. They still tend to delve on the literal meaning of words. So the idea would be to develop their understanding of figurative language. Secondly, it would also aim at inculcate student understanding and ability to connect different ideas and arguments, in a given context. In general the abilit y to understand and comprehend information will be developed at this level.
